Re Watching the classics

I am a avid TV watcher both now and then. I just recently watched the chappelle show after I want to say 3 years of never seeing it and I am laughing at it like its my first time. Not every show can be watched over and over again to the same effect. But the time between watching is different between shows i have noticed. Shows that rely on jokes that have HUGE payoffs like sketch comedies(mr show, snl, chappelle show etc..)or seinfeldesque or Simpsons show where the punchline is pop culture in itself. Shows like star trek and dramas are infinity hard to rewatch as the crux of the show is the beginning and the end and the suspense of getting from point a to B. Knowing what will happen up front kills the suspense for me making the show hard to get into a second time. I figure any show that is awesome should be least ready for reviewing in at least a year and gets better every year after.

Baseball is fun...right?

Let me start by saying I love baseball I always have. I loved the yankess and baseball as well long before I even know how football was played but alas even with that history I am a football guy first and a baseball guy second. I realize that baseball what is still the recognized as the national pastime can be slow and boring and a bit overwhelming with its rules and procedures. I am of the mind that baseball suffers from 2 fatal flaws which are coincidentally its greatest traits. Firstly the fact that baseball demands a working knowledge of the game it inspires passion that only soccer can match. The thing is as with soccer most people do not have the working knowledge of the game. Other then strike out and home run most people will not see the skill of the sac bunt and moving runs over and bullpen management. this stuff is not entertaining in the casual way footballs run throw hit dynamic is. You can not tell the diffrence between a cover 2 or a 46 you will enjoy a tackle and if you do not know a shotgun or a I a touchdown is a touchdown. The second reason is the fact that baseball is taught not picked up. This means that you cant be taught baseball on the drive to the ballpark it takes years and a patient teacher(dad or grandfathers normally)I suspect football is learned by most people during a superbowl party or in a social situation football is on(bar,party,etc..) I think the fact that baseball requires the skill and the effort that its impossible to do anything casually let alone follow it. I am a fan but I will admit that I watched 0 pitches of the world series this year and according to the ratings I wasnt alone.

My review of the BBC show "Luther" episode 1

First I would like to apologize as I been updating my blogs twice a week and this week due to travel i was unable to so for that I am sorry. OK with that out the way time to get into the review of episode 1 of "Luther"

I want to start this by saying I am not the biggest fan of Idris Elba the star of this show. I feel his American stuff is heavy handed and poorly acted. With that said and having seen this show I believe that he can act when he is allowed to speak in his accent and when written for. Obviously this is the first show of a series and Theres alot that can go wrong but from what I saw that will be hard to do. This show is awesome and without spoiling it Luther is obsessed and at home in the process of solving murders or the solution more like it. When he is "ON" he is laser focused on the task but with that focus the rest of his life is left to fall to waste. The interactions he has with everyone from his estranged wife who is trying to move on from the man she loves but knows she will never be able to compete with his obsession. Also he interactions with the killer(yes your aware of who did this pretty early as its less about who and more about catching the person. This interaction he has with this person is fantastic as he seems more comfortable sparring with this sociopathic genius who loves creating scenarios as much as Luther loves solving them. I enjoy the fact that he so wants to have a normal life with his wife yet it is obvious to anyone with eyes that he can,t relate with people in a way where that will be possible. I am hoping to see where this show goes to see the progression of the cat and mouse game and juxtaposition of who is cat and who is mouse. I hope you love this show as much as I have at least give it a shot and let me know what you think via comments or email.

I love a 80,s era monatges sooooo much that i wrote a blog abouut it

Anyone who watched a movie in the 80,s or loves the genre of 80,s movie knows what a montage is. If you are unaware of what a montage is then let me explain to you what it is. A montage can be any length of the movie that has a theme song playing throughout it and a common theme. Sometimes this is silent and the story is told through wacky or solemn music and facial clues. Sometimes you get some dialogue filled with wacky banter or heartfelt tears and words. I love this so much that I break my life into various montages as they are a great vehicle to describe what’s going on with you. I will give my top three montages that can express the general feeling and situation I am in without going into it.

1#the everything is going great montage aka the making all the sales and winning the girl of dreams
This one is the one they play when the hero of the movie is at the stage he worked to get to. This could be being popular and sitting with the cool kids or learning to read. This is used when I get paid mostly as this montage involves the sub montage the "shopping montage" this one is where you spend tons of cash remaking yourself for a girl or to win a bet that you will be some chick. This montage is great but will always lead to the

2#getting fired and catching your wife cheating on you the same day or lost sight of what’s important montage

This is the low that always follows the high as you get brought back down to earth. This is more times than not when your new popular girlfriend and friends who are with you for the wrong reasons leave you for losing what you had or your old dorky friends won’t talk to you for ditching them as soon as you made it. This is followed by a slow sad walk as a sad song plays as you remember the good times. This can also be called the

3#the going to a new place or Eddie Murphy is in L.A montage

I have seen several Eddie Murphy movies where he is in a L.A sees something wacky and 80,s strange and does his laugh. This is used in fish out of water stories where the hero is making an "orly?" face as some high tempo music plays to frame the wackiness.

I hear yea but I am still not going to see your movie

Yeah i can see that you are showing me wacky clips and behind the scenes scoops but I still have no desire to see what you have made. Why do I take such a Harsh stance to such a mundane thing? The reason is I don,t like the heavy hand especially when it comes to my entertainment. I will use two movies which came out recently with two very diffrent results

Poor poor mcgruber the movie that was marketed to be a word of mouth monster but forgot to secure said mouth to pass ont he words. It was not due to lack of trying though tons of random commericals with a voiceover that alluded to naughtiness unseen. I guess they thought if they made a comedy raunchy and made a handshake deal with america if they paid to see it they would get to see said naughtiness. Well it failed and failed hard which is based mostly to the core audience of mcgruber owning computers and a working knowledge of bit torrent. To my point I dislike having my spare time strong armed by a marketing exec who thinks all I need as a nerd is the promise of profanity. in the immortal words of willy wonka "you lose good days sir.........I said good day"

And for ever Mcgruber that attempts to force me to be in on the next big thing there is a Iron man 2 which is a legit big thing without one word being said. The marketing of a movie like this is extreme it includes tie ins and wacky behind the scenes clips and articles that give a controversial tidbit about the star. This is not counting the millions of commercials both cryptic and spoilerish. This bothers me slightly less then the slight of hand marketing that movies like mcgruber employ as I can understand hedging a 500 million dollar bet with agressive marketing.

Re-alchohol ad super men

I have a update on the chuck norris-faction on booze ads this one comes from skunky ass keystone light.

Yeah this douchbag is "always smooth" unlike the shitty beer he hawks. This guy talks women out of trees like cats and other nonsense scenarios that he gets into. Like the most important man ever and john jameson before is known to do the impossible as easy as you and I breathe. It seems the only thing Keith Stone can,t do is make shitty keystone and shitter keystone light taste good.

Shoptalk(I only buy my Booze from Chuck norris)

I notice that in the last year or so We have had a shift in booze marketing to a either Bro-centric approach with the scruffy faced dude with his polo and cargo wearing buddies. This approcah is High on the high fives and hanging out with your dedicated group of bros and drinking beer defined in the most specific of ways. This approach doesnt bother me as much as wonder
if there is groups of bros with a token black bro who scour the landscape for beer and cool ways to get beer

Example the coors light guys-who love to bro out at press confrences and games in press boxes

Next one is the most odd to me. Its the Guy who is superhuman in the chuck norris whose tears cure cancer sort of way. It started with the most intresting guy ever who lives vicariously through himself and He once taught a German shepherd to bark in Spanish. Ok while I enjoy outragous shit as much as anyone but how does this make me want to inbibe dos equis? Apprantly it works because the jameson irish whiskey folks have come up with a dashing hero who can show u at his own funeral with whiskey jugs he dived into a hurricane to get.I don,t know what it is about
stopping a stampede of horses and getting them to plow your barley field or When it is raining, it is because he is thinking of something sad that makes people want to get drunk but it does i guess.

1/13/10 Top 3 worst comedies featuring action stars

Before I start let me say my bad for updating super late. I went away for the weekend leaving my fans with nothing but nothing to appease them so i apologize for that. so with that said I now bring the list which is of action stars and the shitty comedies that made. The idea of action stars doing silly comedies hay day was in the 80,s and due to how awesome those action stars movies were it made the comedies that much more awful. This list will go from the least awful to the absolute worst of the worst.

Twins
action star-Arnold schwarzenegger
This was crap not for any other reason then the awkward hippie gangbang imagery they placed in my head. That alone though doesn't get you on this list light hearted eugenics and the fact that Danny was the crap left over after Arnie was conceived in said gangbang.

Jingle all the way

action star-Sinbad

This film starred the action Hero sinbad who took a break from Killing people in his other movies To star with comedy star Arnold schwarzeneggerwho made such lighthearted fare as kindergarten cop and Junior. It was fun watching sinbad tone down his more vicious tendencies and play up to Arnie's perfect comic timing. In the scene where they fight for the last toy. I almost expected sinbad to go all "sinbad and kill the gentle giant but no dice

Over the top
action star-sly Stallone

This HILARIOUS film stars sly as a trucker who bounces on family and arm wrestles to earn cash on the side. the wife who for some reason has never divorced this douche Lincoln hawk. Why this is a comedy is its grand showdown and thing that resolves everything is a arm wrestling match for a truck...ORLY? I would have been OK with enough money to retire and be with the kid but the prize was a truck which means he would be just as absent from this kids life. That's moot though the fact that a arm wrestling match was the grand finale makes this without a doubt the worst comedy(it had to be a comedy right) with a action star of all time

trial of a timlord(RTD edition) part 2

Hey folks I hope you enjoyed part 1 of this trial and after skimming the seasons i am talking about today I am ready to go. I got some feedback on part 1(one email stating that i should STFU about rose as she rules) and will not waste time blabbering and get right into season 3-season 4 1/2.

Season 3

This season RULED!!!. why did it rule you might ask? First off the stories ruled from the best episode of the remade series(Blink) and a companion in Martha that was capable and not dependent on the doctor to explain things. It also had the Master return played masterfully by John simm which he plays it manic and it works opposite tenennts portrayal of the doctor. As far as cons I hated how they made Martha to be a puppy dog in love and continuing the streak of awful uncomfortable love side stories. Also having Martha leave after only one season was a poor choice. Also this season had the runaway bride X-Mas special which introduces us to Donna noble who returns later in the series. It had a awesome scene that showed how bad ass he could be.

Pro-Martha as a companion, best stories to date and by far, return of the master, the 10Th doctor getting into a groove

cons Martha as a love interest, tacked on dalek story, finale that did not live up to the hype

season 4

This season seems better then it was. It had Donna noble who I liked as the love shit ceased but she left after one season. This season had the best build up and hype towards the end of all of them which I think lead to how disappointing the end was in retrospect. This season had the doctors daughter and a full ood story and the introduction of the sontarans back to the show. At one point he meets someone from his future who knows him that they allude to being his wife. My point is why add shit when you cant even handle the mythology you have? The finale was a clusterfuck that involved everyone from the last 4 years and a mock regeneration(bullshit) and the return of davros and the daleks. This failed mostly due to the fact that again Mr RTD used a deus Ex Machina to fix things and the story did not live up to the tremendous hype.

Pro good non love interest companion, great episodes for the most part, great job hyping the finale,

con companion left after one season again, alot of "meh" stories,A over hyped finale that didn't(couldn't) deliver

2009 specials

This wasn't a proper season as DT had Royal Shakespeare work to do. He had more or less said he was leaving so we were given 4 bank holiday specials in which his swan song would play out. The first being Planet of the dead with Michelle Ryan and was OK for the most part it was the ending that made this rule. A prophecy was given that "he will knock 4 times" which we all figured was the master returning which was true. The second was Waters of mars which felt weird as he wasnt suppose to be there and it felt like it to. This ended with him going Sarah palin and saving someone he wasn't suppose to and her having to kill herself setting the stage for the final 2 specials. I will not go into it but for the most part end of time 1 and 2 ruled all the way up to his death and RTD end as EP of the show. saying all that if RTD had been as spot on as he was with these specials from story to pacing to hype My verdict may been different.

Pro-all of it except the downplaying of the timelords returning

con-nothing really

Ok so after 5 years what can I say on one hand he brought back a show i loved and got it popular again but on the other hand it is popular for all the wrong reasons(BS love stories). I would say my verdict was the same as BBC which is a forced regeneration to the superb Steven Moffet.

OK now that's done hit me with feedback and comment what you think. As i bet i left some shit out and pro,d something that should of been a con and vice versa or maybe you think I should stop with all the BS Dr who talk either way.

trial of a timlord(RTD edition)

I like many people lit up the glass pipe of geekdom on Friday(sat for the lawful among us) in watching David tenants swansong on Dr Who. This episode was not half bad despite the track record of hype to fail ratio of Mr Davies(Exec producer of the series) since the shows relaunching in 2005. I was going to review it but realized that i can do that in half of a twitter post(http://twitter.com/couldofbeenking by the way). which would pretty much say "the 10 min goodbyes and death overshadowed the other 2 hours and change of adventure" which is why I decided to do a review of the whole run from 2005-2009. I will be like the valeyard but without the broken logic and silly pacing and rtd will be the 6Th doctor in garish clothing as is his peoples custom. I am really lazy so i will do a brief bit about the season and why it ruled(pro) and why it was ass and detrimental to the show(con).

2005 season-
This season saw the return of a series that had been in hell after the abortion of a TV movie which tried to revive not only a show dead since 1989 but Also try to Americanize it as well. This was a fail that tool 9 years and the producer of A randy showtime show called queer as folk to solve. RTD for the most part succeeded in this as the stories worked and the Eccleston was a very believable doctor. This series also introduced us to the time war a deus ex machina to make the show more accessible to new viewers by in essence burying the past. the companions he had were horrible as A chav with a heart doesn't do it for me and the love story they were hinting at was troubling to me. I figure if i as a 30 year old talking to a 16 year old is sketch a 900 year old dude talking to a 19 year old is super sketch. In closing this season was awesome and the main reason the relaunch was successful.

pro-choice of doctor, addressing the past but not depending on it,story structure and pacing
con-the chav companion and fact Eccleston left A.S.A.P

2006-

What the Fuck was this shit suppose to be? It got real bad real quick and it was the rose and doctor thing they forced down our throats. Will to go back a tick After the departure of Eccleston he regenerated into David tenant who became a pretty good doctor but not this season. This season saw the return of the cybermen(meh) a rough looking Sarah Jane smith which was turned into a she loved him which messed it up for me and the rose and doctor are in love. first off that chav offered nothing but nothing. secondly the only story that ruled she was barley in(girl in the fireplace) and lastly when she left the words "thank jeebus" flew out my mouth. This season also credit to it weaved in the torchwood angle very smoothly and was not intrusive with the exception of Satan's pit.

pro-girl in fireplace,epic finale,rose the chav left

con-the rest of it

I will finish the trial tomorrow i want to give people a chance to weigh in or at the very least a chance to re watch some season three and four to wash my mind of season two. check back tomorrow for the conclusion of trial of a time lord(rtd edition)
